Cuba Maintains Poor Religious Freedom Conditions 

Washington, DC – The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) released the following report:

Cuba Country Update – This report outlines continued, systematic violations of freedom of religion or belief (FoRB) in Cuba. The government maintains a repressive legal structure that marginalizes certain religious groups and exerts control over them, using surveillance, fines, and enforced exile against religious leaders and practitioners.

In its 2026 Annual Report, USCIRF recommended Cuba be designated as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC). USCIRF has reported on the authoritarian repression of FoRB in Nicaragua, Cuba, and Venezuela, and held a hearing on Cuba’s religious freedom violations.
