Walking with the Persecuted Faithful: ChinaAid’s Latest Updates

Join us as we Walk with the Persecuted Faithful. This edition underscores China’s dramatic escalation and infringement on religious freedom by targeting a multi-city crackdown on the Zion Church Network.

There have been heartbreaking rearrests, the ruthless detention of the elderly, and a pastor’s public disappearance at Shenzhen Bao’an Airport. We are celebrating global faith leaders coming together at the Taipei summit to strengthen faith and champion resilience.

Your vital support empowers us to expose injustices and protect the persecuted and vulnerable. We are grateful for your alliance in this battle for freedom. Thank you!

Lead Story: Faith Under Fire: 30 Christian Leaders Jailed in Xi's Sweeping Crackdown

In a sweeping crackdown on religious freedom, Chinese authorities arrested nearly 30 pastors and ministry workers from the Zion Church network across multiple cities on October 10, 2025. Detainees, including senior pastor Jin Mingri, were transferred to Beihai, Guangxi, facing non-religious charges like "illegal business operations" and "fraud" to mask persecution. Founded in 2007, the unregistered house church spans over 40 cities and draws 5,000 worshippers weekly.

Some members, including a breastfeeding mother, were briefly detained and released amid scrutiny. Zion Church issued statements demanding releases and urging international intervention. Dr. Bob Fu of ChinaAid condemned the actions as the worst in 40 years, calling for global solidarity against the CCP's assault on faith.

Story #2: Christian Fellowship Hit with Rearrests and Torture Allegations

In Shenyang, China, authorities have rearrested three members of the Sai Er Te Young Adults Fellowship—Brothers Shao, Sister Liu, and Sister Gu—between September 26 and 29, 2025, on charges of "using a cult organization to undermine law enforcement." Initially detained June 29 and bailed July 31, they endured surveillance and harassment before this shocking renewal.

Pastor Mingdao remains imprisoned since June, now over three months, amid reports of torture and family targeting. His wife, Sister Hua Zhao, was detained September 30, bringing total arrests to six. The fellowship urges global prayers for their steadfast faith amid escalating persecution.

Story #3: Elderly Pastor's Wife Detained: Family Fights Back Against Unjust Persecution

In Xi'an, the daughter of Light of Zion Church Pastor Gao Quanfu has petitioned the Beilin District Procuratorate to review the necessity of her mother Pang Yu's detention, protesting procedural violations and health risks.

Arrested in May 2025 on suspected fraud charges with church members, the nearly 70-year-old Pang endured restrictive residential surveillance before being taken away again in September without notice. Eight others were bailed, but Gao remains jailed. The petition cites no flight risk, evidence completion, and legal contradictions, highlighting ongoing religious suppression in China.

Story #5: Global Faith Leaders Unite in Taipei

TAIPEI—As China's latest assault on faith intensifies with the arrest of over 30 Zion Church leaders in a sweeping crackdown dubbed the #109ZionChurchCase, global advocates convened in Taipei to fortify resilience against tyranny. Hosted by ChinaAid, the Institute for Global Engagement (IGE), and Presbyterian Church in Taiwan (PCT) on October 16-17, the symposium "The Role of Faith Communities in National Security and Resilience" drew experts from Lithuania, Ukraine, the U.S., Taiwan, and Singapore.

Lithuanian Ambassador Gintė Damušis recounted Soviet-era faith as a bulwark against totalitarianism, fueling independence. Singapore's Shashi Jayakumar highlighted interfaith dialogues averting extremism in multi-ethnic societies. Nadine Maenza, IGE Board Chair and ex-USCIRF head, drew parallels: "If these ISIS-ravaged regions [in Syria] can achieve community resilience, other regions can too." Ukraine's Hanna Homeniuk warned of professionalized aid eclipsing gospel roots amid war.

Bob Fu exposed CCP church persecutions; ex-Defense Minister Tsai Ming-hsien urged Taiwan-U.S. alliances to shield democracy. PCT's Liu Yi-chun detailed faith roles in Taiwan's disaster recovery. The gathering signals unified defiance: Persecuted churches endure, inspiring global solidarity.

Thank you to our supporters for partnering with ChinaAid, IGE, and PCT to host the Taipei symposium on faith communities' role in national resilience. Your support brought together experts from Lithuania, Ukraine, and beyond, fostering practical exchanges on countering persecution like the #109ZionChurchCase and building enduring global solidarity for believers.

Urgent Prayer for China’s Persecuted Christians
  • We urgently plead for your prayers for Pastor Jin Mingri and the Zion Church leaders and members that have been abruptly arrested. Pray their hearts may be encouraged. Pray for strength and comfort for their families who are now facing grave uncertainty. Pray the Church is strengthened and continues growing in its mission without faltering.
  • Father, we cry for mercy for our dear brothers and sisters from the Shenyang Sai Er Te Young Adults Fellowship. Holy Spirit, comfort Pastor Mingdao that he would not feel isolated. Strengthen Brother Shao, Sister Liu, Sister Gu, and continue to provide for Sister Hua Zhao as her husband is behind bars.
  • We pray for strength and endurance for the elderly Pang Yu who is facing continued detention. We pray for a breakthrough in her case as her daughter appeals for a release.
  • We pray for an immediate update on the whereabouts of Pastor Wang Lin. We pray his family would remain steadfast
  • Father, we bless the Taipei summit. That each wonderful nation represented would apply the truths and strategic advice for a freer tomorrow. We pray for protection for the advocates and all who attended.
