Nigeria (International Christian Concern) — Islamic Fulani Extremists attacked multiple Christian-owned farms last week in Nigeria, killing farmers and destroying crops. The attacks, which occurred after protests erupted in multiple cities, have further exacerbated instability among Christian communities.

Following a clash between police and protestors demanding government reforms and relief from hunger on Aug. 1, which resulted in the deaths of 41 people, protests spread across several cities in Nigeria. At the same time, Christian communities in rural Plateau state endured escalating violence from Islamic Fulani extremists. Attackers killed two farmers and severely beat another in Mangu and Bassa counties.

“Fulani wanted to kill me, but I thank God I was safe,” one survivor told an International Christian Concern (ICC) staffer.

On Aug. 3, Fulani herders attacked two Christian farmers as they worked their land in Kishisho, Kaduna. Both men sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.

A day later, thousands of Muslims protested and vandalized Christian-owned businesses. Plateau state’s governor issued a 24-hour curfew in Jos/Bukuru metropolis to improve security and uphold public order.

HOW TO PRAY: Pray for healing for those grieving or injured as a result of this conflict. Pray for peace amid these escalating protests. Pray for an end to Fulani-led violence in Nigeria.
