Burkina Faso (International Christian Concern) — Six civilians were killed, and four others wounded by Jihadists on Monday in an attack on Nouna, a town of refuge for thousands of people fleeing violence in Burkina Faso, according to the Agency French Press (AFP).

A second Jihadist attack occurred near the border of the Ivory Coast the same evening, killing four more people.

“Junta leader Captain Ibrahim Traore, who seized power in a coup in September last year, denounced the jihadists for their ‘cowardice’ and admitted ‘increasingly frequent attacks against civilians,’” reported the AFP.

The violence plaguing Burkina Faso is one of the world’s most neglected crises today and has left one in four Burkinabe in need of aid, according to the Norwegian Refugee Council’s (NRC) annual list of neglected displacement crises.

The violence seen in Burkina Faso is part of a broader trend of jihadism which has displaced 2.3 million people in West Africa’s Sahel region.

As of 2023, the country has not successfully curbed the spread of violence and still struggles with one of the bloodiest jihadist insurrections in the Sahel. The violence and unrest have created the worst humanitarian crisis in Burkina Faso’s history.

HOW TO PRAY: Pray for comfort for those grieving in the aftermath of this attack. Pray for jihadist attacks in this region to cease. Pray for growth and protection for Burkina Faso’s church.
