From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over all the land. (Matthew 27:45)
In the middle of the Easter story, it appears as though darkness has won. Jesus – the light of the world – has been crucified. Could God really turn this into something good?
And yet, the glorious Easter morning was just about to dawn. Victory was imminent. God was still faithful. The best was yet to come!
Throughout Lent we’ll be praying for people and places where the darkness of injustice appears overwhelming – praying for the light of hope and justice to dawn. Will you join us?
This first week of Lent, lift up the nation of Nigeria. The general election is happening today.
- With instability and insecurity at unprecedented levels, we must pray for leaders who will prioritise justice, integrity and freedom of religion or belief for all – who will bring harmony where there is division, and protect vulnerable ethnic and religious communities.
- Pray for leaders who will work tirelessly and strategically to contain the crisis of violence which has gripped central Nigeria for over a decade, and has now spread to other regions. Christians and church leaders are especially vulnerable to appalling attacks and abductions for ransom.
- Pray that all eligible citizens will be able to vote freely, safely and with their consciences, for the good of the whole country, and that all attempts at rigging will be prevented.
