(Fuzhou, Fujian Province / Shunde, Guangdong Province—December 21, 2021) Over the past week, Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials raided two anonymous church schools.

The first, located in a fishing village near Fuzhou, Fujian Province, sent out an urgent prayer request on December 19. They asked Christians to intercede for their church school. Someone in the village reported their school was a “cult”, so county officials raided the school on December 18. They dispatched nearly 50 police officers, over 20 of them armed. 20 teachers and students were interrogated overnight.

The government announced the preliminary penalty decision for the school near Fuzhou:

1. each student should be deported to their hometown;

2. all teachers should prepare for interrogation at any time;

3. the books the school owns, worth 200,000 yuan (~31,000 USD), are to be confiscated;

4. all the school’s all equipment is to be moved;

5. the government has demanded that the 600 square metered architecture should be demolished.

On December 15, 2021, the Bureau of Religion and other departments raided a different church school located in Shunde, Guangdong Province. The school educated kindergarten through high school, and officials raided the school twice before.

At this point, teachers have been discussing strategies on how to handle it.

Authorities have intensified their crackdown on schools run by churches, and it happens so frequently that officials started to arrest teachers and even parents. Many schools do not dare to release their names nor disclose the news stories about repression out of the concern that authorities would be provoked and harass them more severely. It has been a long while that church schools —including teachers, parents, and students—  committed to Christian education. Parents fear that their children would be brainwashed by CCP sanctioned atheist education.
