Nigeria (International Christian Concern)- On February 19, 2018 at 5:30 pm, Boko Haram kidnapped 110 schoolgirls from the Government Girls’ Science and Technical College located in northeast Nigeria. After a month of negotiations between the Nigerian government and Boko Haram, 104 out of the 105 girls left alive were released from captivity and returned home to their families. To this day, only one girl remains.

The jihadist militant terrorist group Book Haram kept 14 year old Leah Sharibu due to her refusal to deny Christ and convert to Islam. For the past three years she has been held hostage and deemed a “slave for life” by her captors. The last time Leah was heard from was through a video recording released in August of 2018.

“I am calling on the government and people of goodwill to intervene to get me out of my current situation,” she said. “I also plead to the members of the public to help my mother, my father, my younger brother and relatives. Kindly help me out of my predicament. I am begging you to treat me with compassion, I am calling on the government, particularly, the president to pity me and get me out of this serious situation. Thank you.”

As the third anniversary of her kidnapping approaches, the LEAH Foundation has launched a campaign titled “7 days of prayer”, where each of the days leading up to the 19th has been given a special prayer request. The organization will also be streaming live on the 19th in a webinar titled “Speak-Up: 3 hours for 3 years”. Through these events the Leah foundation hopes to bring international attention to Leah’s story, and shed light on Christian persecution in Nigeria, the most violent place in the world to be a believer.

HOW TO PRAY: Praise God for the return of these girls to their families. Pray for the safety of the one missing girl still in captivity. Pray for the future safety of believers in Nigeria.
