Mozambique (International Christian Concern) – The Islamist insurgency in northern Mozambique continues to grow and unfold. The most recent development in the country is that on April 7, Islamic militants, likely affiliated with ISIS, killed 52 young members of a village when they refused to join the terrorist group. The killings consisted of mainly beheadings and execution style shootings. The group is trying to grow and gain control of more land in Northern Mozambique. As they do this, their tactics are likely to become more violent and aggressive.

Though this attack happened several weeks ago, news has just started to emerge about these deaths. So far, the Mozambican government has not openly addressed the issue of the insurgency or how they plan to deal with it. In several of the attacks that happened earlier this year, military and security personnel were killed by the insurgents. Despite this, there has not been any major pushes by the government to end the insurgency and stop the attacks.

Hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced due to the growing violence in the mineral rich Northern region. Those who flee often do not have anywhere to run to or places to go that will help them return to a normal life. Please pray for those affected by this growing crisis and for the government to have wisdom in dealing with these violent militants.

HOW TO PRAY: Pray for peace in northern Mozambique. Pray for peace and comfort for those who lost loved ones in this attack. Pray for ISIS to lose its grip on this region.
