Luke 10:19
“I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.”
Luke 10:19 states that JESUS gives HIS followers the authority to "trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy" with the assurance that "nothing shall by any means hurt you". This verse is often interpreted as granting spiritual authority over evil forces and the assurance that believers will be protected from harm, both literal and figurative. It is understood as a key part of the authority given to believers by CHRIST JESUS, who is the source of their power. This Bible verse is understood to be about authority over spiritual enemies, like demons, which the disciples report having submitted to them in the preceding verse (Luke 10:17).
The mention of "serpents and scorpions" can be understood literally, as a reference to physical protection from dangerous creatures, or figuratively as a symbol of the evil forces that can harm believers. The promise that "nothing shall by any means hurt you" is seen as a reassurance of divine protection over believers' lives, souls, and eternal welfare, even when facing hardship or persecution. The authority is not self-generated but is a gift from having faith in JESUS, who has been given all authority by His Heavenly FATHER.
