1 Peter 1:3-4
“Praise be to the GOD and FATHER of our Lord JESUS CHRIST! In His great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of JESUS CHRIST from the dead, 4-and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you,”
The hope that we have in GOD is quite unlike common worldly hope. Worldly hope is plagued with many uncertainties because we simply do not have the power to bring about the things for which we hope. But when our hope is in CHRIST, it rests in the great and precious promises of GOD, and so we can know with certainty that we will surely receive what the LORD has promised because He has the power to bring it about. There is no anxiety in our hope in GOD, but instead, joyful patience as we wait for the FATHER’s good plan to unfold. As the children of GOD, we shall soon inherit great responsibility over His creation. In the ancient world, and even in most parts of the world today, children inherit their parent’s property or business with the intention that they will build upon it and cause it to grow. The earth is a training ground for our role in the coming, future kingdom of GOD our FATHER where we will reign over all His creation. This is a wonderful privilege that’s beyond our ability to comprehend. And furthermore, unlike worldly wealth, our inheritance in the future kingdom is described as “imperishable, undefiled, and unfading.” Our future inheritance is nothing that can be lost, but will endure forever.
Prayer:
LORD GOD, thank You for creating me as Your child and giving me Your promise of a great and glorious inheritance. Let my life on earth be a life of preparation for what is yet to come. Let me do well with each and every responsibility You give me. Let the hope of my future inheritance give me great joy and peace as I wait for Your promises to be fulfilled. In JESUS’ amazing and great Name. Amen.
