The Voice of the Martyrs
Two young girls in Syria
Sharing Joys and Burdens
Recently, VOM workers had the opportunity to meet with some of our Syrian brothers and sisters and hear their stories.

Syrian Christians’ lives have been severely disrupted by the civil war that began in 2011. Caught in the brutal conflict between Muslim factions, believers have been abused and attacked from all sides. The churches and believers remaining in Syria have served as a source of hope and peace for both Christians and Muslims throughout the war.

Reflecting on the visit, one worker wrote:

We are thankful for every person we encountered, every door that was opened, and every moment in which we could see the Lord going before us and preparing the way. Through every circumstance and challenge, his hand was evident, giving us strength, wisdom and grace.

We were also deeply grateful for the opportunity to listen and share in God’s Word, to encourage one another and be encouraged, and to experience genuine fellowship in his love. Throughout this journey, we shared moments of laughter and moments of tears, carrying one another’s joys and burdens. These moments reminded us that we are one family in Christ and that God often reveals his presence through the love, faith and fellowship we share.

Despite the many scars and lasting effects of war, we were deeply encouraged to see [our Syrian brothers and sisters] continuing faithfully in their service to the Lord and remaining committed to serving alongside the church. Their perseverance and faith were a powerful testimony to us, reminding us that even in the midst of hardship and uncertainty, God continues to strengthen his people and use them for his glory.

Thank you for sharing the burdens of our persecuted Christian family members as a Global Ministry Partner. Your prayers and gifts let them know that they are not alone — and may their faithfulness and obedience encourage and strengthen your faith. You can read more about Christian persecution in Syria in the Global Prayer Guide.
