This week, an imprisoned Early Rain pastor is reportedly battling advanced liver cancer with almost no family access. More than 100 officers raided a Beijing church’s 20th-anniversary preparations and detained its pastor and seven coworkers on “fraud” charges.

Arrested Again After Eight Years in Prison
Authorities in Chengdu’s Wenjiang District formally arrested Early Rain Covenant Church member and veteran dissident Chen Yunfei on September 23 on suspicion of “picking quarrels and provoking trouble.” His detention began in August in Gansu Province; when administrative custody expired on August 17, Subei officers transferred him to Chengdu police instead of releasing him. ChinaAid has raised an urgent health alarm after receiving reports that Pastor Wang Yi, founder of Chengdu’s Early Rain Covenant Church, may be suffering from advanced liver cancer inside Jintang Prison. 100 Officers Raid Beijing Church’s 20th Anniversary Prep
On September 4, 2026, more than 100 police officers, including plainclothes personnel, surrounded roughly 50 members of Beijing Jiaquan Church as they prepared a hotel conference room for the congregation’s 20th anniversary celebration the next day. Pastor Zhou Zixun, legally known as Cui Xianfeng, and seven coworkers remain in criminal detention on suspicion of “fraud,” a charge families link to the unregistered house church’s offerings and ordinary ministry.
