Today we also ask you to pray for a Christian family in India’s Chhattisgarh State, who have been left homeless after they were targeted by a mob and forced to flee.
Sodi Deva’s family have been the only Christians in Mukaram village since he converted from Hinduism four years ago.
On the morning of 28 September, a group of around 60-70 villagers broke into their home and demolished the structure. They destroyed furniture and other household belongings and uprooted the crops which they relied on for food.
His wife, Gangi, was dragged out of the house by her sari and harassed in front of the crowd. The couple’s 11-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son witnessed the ordeal as the mob issued death threats, demanding that their father converted back to Hinduism.
Fearing for their safety, Mr Deva and his family fled 15km to a neighbouring village – leaving all their possessions behind.
The next day, he met with the police superintendent in Sukma District and appealed for protection, but so far no action has been taken. The family are currently taking refuge in a church.
Two weeks have passed, and still no action has been taken – not even a First Information Report (FIR), which is required for the police to open an investigation.
The violence, humiliation and forced displacement endured by this family must not go unanswered. Please pray for real steps towards justice and protection, and that they would be encouraged by the love of the Lord today: ‘As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love.’ (John 15:9 ESV)
