The report draws its content from China Aid Association’s exclusive news sources and the Communist Party of China’s official websites concerning religion. While the report is not exhaustive of every case, the message is clear: the Chinese Communist Party is determined to undermine and disband churches and replace Christian faith with Party loyalty.

In 2023, ChinaAid reported on the fallout of the CCP’s open oppression of Christians in the ongoing campaign of the “Sincization of Christianity.”

Few Christians and churches, if any at all, were left untouched by the persecution efforts of the Chinese government.

Last year marked the first year of Xi Jinping’s extended reign since he broke the precedent of two terms adopted by the Chinese Communist Party since Deng Xiaoping introduced the so-called reform and opening up. Xi’s reign has manifested two major characteristics: emphasis on politics, especially highlighting Xi Jinping’s personal traits, and disregard for the laws and regulations, even resorting to use violence to suppress religion.

In light of the release, Dr. Rev. Bob Fu, President and Founder of ChinaAid, said:

"The conclusions drawn in ChinaAid’s Annual Persecution Report for 2023 should come as no surprise. The Chinese Communist Party has for years been systematically seeking the downfall of not just Christianity but every genuine religion or faith across China. The persecution stories of human rights lawyers, church members, pastors, and ordinary Christians should reverberate in our hearts and minds. I hope and pray the international community responds to these stories with a renewed, unified vision for multilateral coordination in defense of religious freedom for all in China."
