Jubilee Campaign Commemorates the Universal Declaration of Human Rights' Diamond Jubilee and Celebrates the 75th Annual International Human Rights Day

Sunday, 10 December 2023 marked the 75th anniversary of the United Nations General Assembly's adoption of the milestone proclamation outlining the inherent dignity and equal rights of every individual across the globe: the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

In Paris in 1948, representatives from nations, faiths, political beliefs convened to codify the Four Freedoms - freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear. What resulted was a document which laid the foundation for the subsequent adoption of no fewer than seventy human rights treaties and endless national constitutions and legal codes.

This day serves as a poignant reminder of the ongoing struggle for justice, freedom, and equality. As we commemorate the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, let us reaffirm our commitment to promoting and protecting the rights and freedoms of all people.

Since Jubilee Campaign's inception in 1991, we have sought to raise the plight of people persecuted for their faith and/or gender across the globe, from the Christians in Pakistan and Nigeria, and the Uyghur Muslims and Tibetan Buddhists in China, to women in North Korea and Iran.

Conducting advocacy on domestic stages such as congressional hearings and meetings with state representatives, and transnational and international arenas including the United Nations, International Criminal Court, and most recently the Canadian Parliament, Jubilee Campaign fights for the release of prisoners of conscience, the protection of women and children from trafficking, and the eradication of legislation and policy which curtails religious freedom and gender equality.

All around the world people are languishing in prison or dying because no one will utter a word in their defense. When evil tries to silence its victims, our voice will not let them be forgotten.

With the assistance of you all, our supporters, we have been able to sustain our mission for over thirty years, and we hope that you will continue to assist us in furthering our shared goals of eradicating persecution of people on the basis of faith and fighting against gender-based discrimination and violence.
