Congo (International Christian Concern) – Twelve people including women and children were killed in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) on Thursday, another attack perpetrated by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) terror group.

Katanga Matete, an administrator in the Bukokoma area, told the French Press Agency that the militants “were opening doors and decapitating people with hatchets and machetes.”

Albert Ndungo, a local Red Cross official, said 12 people including four women and children were killed “by bladed weapons.”

For years, dozens of armed militias have wreaked havoc in the DRC, a predominately Christian nation. The largest among these terrorist groups is the ADF, an affiliate of ISIS that aims to create an Islamic Caliphate in Central Africa.

While the international community recognizes the extreme danger posed by ADF, it does not seem to fully appreciate the religious component of the ADF movement. In searching for long-term solutions to the terror group, it is important that the world address not just the economic roots of the insurgency but the ideological ones as well.

HOW TO PRAY:  Please continue to pray for the healing of those traumatized by violence in the DRC and for the Lord to comfort those who are grieving the loss of loved ones. Please also pray for the Lord to strengthen government protection over its people and bring peace to the nation and for the love of Jesus to redeem the souls of those who persecute the church.  Pray for an end to ADF-led violence in the DRC. Pray for protection for Christian children across the DRC. Pray for peace for all those who are grieving after this incident.
