Nigeria (International Christian Concern) – The Nigerian military killed 11 Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) terrorists in an offensive between May 31 and June 4, according to local officials.

Meanwhile, ISWAP fighters reportedly killed or wounded about 20 Nigerian soldiers when they ambushed a military convoy June 2.

“The military convoy was heading to the town of Arege, near the borders with Niger and Chad, to deliver food supplies to troops fighting the jihadists in the area,” sources told the Agency French Press. “We lost several men in the fierce battle with ISWAP terrorists from a vehicle-borne suicide attack.”

ISWAP has terrorized northeastern Nigeria – accounting for 75 percent of terrorist attacks in the region – since it splintered from Boko Haram.

“For the first time in the history of the [ISWAP] jihadi group, Iraq is no longer the country where IS claiming the highest number of operations: the group Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) is now more active in Nigeria,” noted Jihad Analytics, a company watching global and cyber jihad. “Attacks by insurgents have resulted in the killing of thousands, while over two million people have been displaced in the region.”

HOW TO PRAY: Pray for ISWAP militants to come to know Christ. Pray for peace in this region. Pray for protection for those in Nigeria who are vulnerable to violence.
