Nigeria Update: Jubilee Campaign Petitions White House to Acknowledge Boko Haram as a Terrorist Group

Date:            November 30, 2012

At the beginning of this year, Boko Haram gained an international recognition when they called for the genocide of Nigeria's Christians and slaughtered over 300 people, mostly Christians, in the month January alone. Since then they have have attacked over two dozen churches, often using suicide bombers to hit during Sunday worship, terrorizing the Christian community. Boko Haram has received training and support from the Al Qaeda network and threatened to attack the US. They have slaughtered hundreds of innocents in 2012, and thousands in the last three years.

Despite all of this, the State Department has refused to recognize Boko Haram as a terrorist group. We have lobbied extensively on this issue throughout the year, doing briefing afterbriefing, and even a Congressional Hearing. We presented the terrorist nature of Boko Haram and the need for an FTO designation over and over again, to no avail. Meanwhile, the innocent people of Nigeria continue to be slaughtered, with no end and no justice in sight.

So now we are petitioning the White House. If this petition gets 25,000 signatures by December 29, 2012, the White House will review it and respond.

Please join with us and ask that Boko Haram be labeled for what they are: terrorists.

Here is the text of our petition

Boko Haram has killed hundreds of innocent civilians using terrorist tactics. They deserve an FTO Designation.

The Islamic extremist group Jama'atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda'awati  Wal-Jihad, aka Boko Haram, has killed an estimated three thousand Nigerians  in the last three years. In the beginning of 2012 Boko Haram called for the religious cleansing and genocide of Christians in the north. Since then their indiscriminate bombings have killed men, women and children; soldiers, police and civilians; Christians, Muslim and the followers of traditional African folk beliefs. They have directly targeted helpless Christians, and any
Muslims who dare to disagree with their genocidal ambitions.

Despite all this uncontested evidence, the US has refused to designate Boko
Haram a Foreign Terrorist Organization.

Join us in calling for the US to do the right thing and acknowledge that Boko
Haram are terrorists.
