Tight security foiled an attempted suicide attack on a church in Mostorod, north of Cairo, on Saturday 11 August 2018.
Security guards stopped the attacker from entering the church grounds to target worshippers. The bomber then detonated his explosive vest on an overpass around 250 metres from the church, killing himself and one passer-by, as well as injuring a policeman.
Egyptian security services subsequently made seven arrests in relation to the attack. At the time of writing, no organisation has claimed responsibility.
Islamic State terrorists have mounted a number of attacks on churches in Egypt in the last two years. In December 2017, nine Christians were killed when gunmen targeted a church in Helwan, south of Cairo, while nearly 50 Christians were killed in bombings at multiple churches on Palm Sunday 2017.
Please join us in prayer: Give thanks to God that a suicide bomber was prevented from attacking the church in Mostorod, Egypt. May He who restrains, continue to diminish evil and lawlessness in Egypt and in the world and deliver His people from the wicked (Thessalonians 2:6-7, 3:2). Ask the Lord to bring comfort and healing to the families affected by death and injury.
