Lou Yuanqi, a Christian in China’s northwestern Xinjiang was questioned by police for 10 hours on Christmas day last year, after neighbors of the church reported them for holding Christmas celebrations. The Chinese government has been tightening its control on unregistered churches, threatening to shut down or demolish their churches if they do not register as state-sanctioned churches. During this last Christmas, the local authorities also included Three-Self churches within its crackdown on Christmas celebrations.
