Six Nuns Regained Freedom in Nigeria After Two Months of Captivity

Date:  January 12, 2018

Nigeria (WWM)

Six Nigerian nuns who were kidnapped two months ago, were finally released on January 7. Their release came as joyful news for the Sisters of the Eucharistic Heart of Christ, to whom the six sisters belong. Kidnappings for ransom have become increasingly prevalent in southern Nigeria. It is believed that these six were released without ransom and unharmed, even though the kidnappers initially demanded the equivalent of $55,500 USD for their release. Kidnappings of this nature occur frequently as militants often kidnap for political or religious motivations.
