Pakistan: Terror Strikes Christians Once Again in Lahore

A Jihadist attack targeting Christians in Lahore, Pakistan on Easter Sunday killed over 70 people and wounded hundreds more. Ironically, most of those killed and injured were Muslims. Once again Christians are at risk. This time it is a Romeo and Juliet romance that has ignited Muslim hatred against their Christian neighbors. 13 Christians in one family are being threatened by extremists to be burned alive in retaliation for a Muslim woman eloping with a Christian man. Enraged fanatics threaten to abduct Christian girls in the area and burn them alive. In a separate incident, Muslim men torched a Christian man's house over a financial dispute.
Lahore is Pakistan's second largest city of over 10 million. It is 94 percent Muslim, but there is a significant Christian minority. Incidents of attacks against Christians have increased in the last decade. Jihadist insurgents and other terror related groups have been behind many bombings; however, individual agitated Muslims have contributed to the current atmosphere of distrust and fear. Even false accusations of blasphemy have historically been used to settle grievances where Muslims and Christians co-exist. Urgent prayer is needed to deescalate the situation.
The nation of Pakistan is number 6 on the 2016 Open Doors World Watch List of the worst persecutors of Christians in the world. Window International Network partners pray for Pakistan on Day 28 by following the Praying Through the Window 9: Global Terrorism and World Religions prayer calendar.

Let's Pray For:

  • Supernatural intervention and protection for Christians threatened in this recent incident (The Bible, Psalm 91).
  • Christians to reach out to their Muslim neighbors with acts of love that demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ (The Bible,  I Corinthians 16:14).
  • Christianity to grow during these persecutions, demonstrating the power of love and forgiveness over vengeance and hatred (The Bible,  Romans 12:19,1 Peter 1:3-9).
