NEW REGULATIONS FOR BROADCASTING IN BELIZE PASSED ON TO GOVERNMENT FOR APPROVAL AND PASSAGE INTO LAW

By Michael Ireland
Chief Correspondent, ASSIST News Service

BELIZE, CENTRAL AMERICA (ANS) -- Clive Welsh, a missionary to his native Belize involved in broadcasting through Lighthouse Christian Radio FM 101.3, recently attended the Belize Broadcasting Authority meeting where the new Terms and Conditions for Radio, Television and Cable were discussed and will be sent to the Government for approval and made into law.

Commenting on this meeting, Welsh told ANS: "I was once again reminded of the wonderful opportunity that we have to communicate the Gospel and equipping the believers through this medium of radio. Please pray that we would be able to increase our coverage as we seek to upgrade our equipment, antenna and tower. Please pray for more staff so we can expand our broadcasting to 24 hours. Pray (also) for laborers with hearts to serve the Lord and the people of Ambergris."

Welsh also told ANS that The Lighthouse apartments, 3 one-bedroom apartments, which will be used for Staff, Guests and Welsh himself, are nearing completion as the finishing touches are being made.

"We look forward to what the Lord will do now as He is enlarging the ministry on the Island," he said.

"Our desire for the one guest bedroom apartment is to provide a 'get-away' for those in ministries to be refreshed and retreat, as well as for those of you who will be visiting Belize and would like a very reasonable place to stay in San Pedro.

"My prayer is that we would be able to provide this without charge to Belizean pastors, Christian workers, missionaries who are in need of time to seek the Lord and get refreshed while enjoying His creation on Ambergris Caye. Please pray that God would provide and that many would be blessed!"

Welsh said a small team of four from Belize will be going to Cuba to encourage and minister to Cuban pastors in May.

"I was invited by Pastor Han from Bethel Disciples Church, Ontario Village to join him with several brothers from their church to go to Cuba. He has started several churches there years ago and will be going to visit and encourage them. It is also our desire to meet practical needs like providing money to purchase bicycles for some of the pastors who have several churches to travel to on Sundays. A bicycle would be a great benefit to them. Please pray for us as we prepare for this trip. Pray for provisions for this trip: visas, money for bicycles, etc."

If you have questions or desire to know how to assist in the ministry opportunities in Belize please contact Welsh by e-mail at lighthouseradio@aol.com.

He added: "God is truly doing above and beyond what I could have ever imagined, and I'm grateful for the honor of serving Him alongside of you who have faithfully supported me and the ministry here in Belize."
