Indonesia -
We are based in the North Maluku islands. The town and the towns in the
surrounding district, indeed the whole of the Malukas were devastated
by the conflict of 1998-2002. On occasions tensions flare again here,
for example in November we were constantly woken up by exploding bombs
during the night.
The HOP consists of ex-refugees from the conflict who fled to Sulawesi
and have now returned with us to serve in this post-conflict area. We
have about 40 people in the team. We serve both the Islamic and Christian
communities through providing free medical care to those who cannot afford
to go to a Doctor and by providing clean water. It is a great joy to see
those in the team serving in villages where some of them had fought or
where some had fled from.
We meet five times a week and around once a week we concentrate on praying
for the points that have been shared by Bro. Terry. When persecuted people
pray for persecuted brethren - they really pray. It is amazing to watch
the depth of faith and the whole-hearted prayer offered on behalf of those
who have gone/are going through similar trials.
It is a joy to hear answers to prayer and a privilege to share the burdens
of others.
