FRONT ROYAL, VA (ANS) -- Shein Gyi, a Burmese migrant worker, will labor in the hot rice paddies of Thailand seven days a week, 12 hours a day during harvest.
According to a story released by Christian Freedom International (CFI) based in Front Royal, Virginia, he and other migrant workers are considered second-class citizens. Shein Gyi has no rights, no healthcare or retirement benefits. He can't afford to get sick or have an injury because without his meager income his family back in Burma would have no money to buy food.
"Several years ago an indigenous missionary visited Shein Gyi's home village and told him about Christianity," said the CFI story. "This former Buddhist converted to Christianity and has had a desire to learn more about God's Word. But as a migrant worker, he had no access or extra money to purchase a Burmese language Bible. | | CFI volunteers in Thailand prepare Bibles for free distribution to Burma |
"Bibles are not allowed to be printed in Burma and in Thailand there are very few places to purchase them. Fortunately, Shein Gyi and other Christian migrant workers received free Burmese language Bibles from Christian Freedom International. CFI regularly distributes Bibles to Burma and migrant workers in Thailand." Shein Gyi told CFI, "By the gracious God, we Christian peoples who work in Thai farms received Bibles to read and learn more about God's love. We thank CFI who have sympathy on us for their precious gifts to us." Why Bibles and Bible Training? Christian Freedom International believes the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God. But for persecuted Christians in many places around the world owning a Bible is almost impossible. In some countries the Bible is banned. In other nations simply studying God's Word can lead to imprisonment, torture, and death. Yet Christians in these areas of intense persecution ask for our prayers and God's Word. In spite of many dangers, persecuted Christians ask us to send Bibles and provide Bible training so they can become stronger and share the Good News with others. That is why Christian Freedom International says that it is committed to providing Bibles and Bible training in some of the most dangerous places for Christians. "That is why our Bible 'smugglers' put their lives on the line," said a CFI spokesperson. For more information, go to: www.christianfreedom.org.
