Christmas Attack on BosNewsLife News Agency PDF Print E-mail

BUDAPEST, HUNGARY (BosNewsLife)-- Central and Eastern Europe's first Christian news agency, BosNewsLife, suffered an apparent major Internet attack on Christmas Day, December 25, bringing down its Website.

"We really need prayers as this is another crisis situation for us," said Stefan J. Bos, who founded the Budapest-based news agency with his wife Agnes R. Bos in 2004. The site went down early Tuesday, December 25, just hours after BosNewsLife reported on a Hindu mob attacking a Christmas meeting in India. It was not immediately clear who was behind the attack on the Website.

Budapest-based Sorensen Online, the company that provided service for BosNewsLife, did not answer phone calls. The latest attack comes three years after the news agency was attacked by suspected Russian hackers.

BosNewsLife will provide its customers with news items via e-mail, Bos said. "We are very sorry for this, but this is beyond our control," he added.

Bos stressed that no financial information of customers was obtained by the possible hackers, as this is handled by the Bank of Scotland's secure website and Paypal. "BosNewsLife is not handling financial information to ensure security for our customers," he said.

He said BosNewsLife has been closely monitored by authorities and extremists opposing its mission to be "a voice for the voiceless", especially Christians and Jewish people living in difficult circumstances for whatever reason, including persecution. "It's clear that our opponents don't like what we publish," he said.
